SHELTER Behavior HERO?

Shelter Behavior Heroes are people who have done something novel in the behavior realm that will help their local shelter or rescue. We want to recognize people, but we are also hoping to highlight new ideas to help the behavioral health of the animals we all care for.

We may not be able to send our Shelter Behavior Heroes a trophy, but we WILL share their success on our social media and send them a downloadable certificate, so that they can share their achievement. Some projects that we want to hear about include things like repurposing cardboard boxes into cat castles, or creating a new type of enrichment for bored shelter dogs.

Cole Likes Apples

This is Cole! He loves the apples that were donated to the Candy Apple Project!

To build a candy apple for YOUR special canine friend, take one bully stick, and shove it through the center of an apple. Spread peanut butter on the apple and roll the apple in dog biscuit crumbs and voila! Give to a dog whose life needs a little bit of enrichment.

Meet Mary Senseman and a special shelter friend!

Mary was nominated for her creative idea to solicit a donation of apples for the shelter dogs, and then to use those to make fun Hallowe’en Candy apples for all 400 dogs in the shelter. Enrichment is such a big part of successful sheltering and we wanted to recognize this creative effort! Well done Mary!
